I am very excited to announce that the ground for the Nevada Fallen Firefighters Memorial has broken ground! You can view the progress of the piece here: Austin Weishel (@austinweishel) • Instagram photos and videos
The Nevada Fire Memorial features five life size firefighters in action. This is an interactive piece. The memorial allows visitors to walk in the scene, touch the firefighters, and pay their respects. I dedicate this memorial to those who lost their lives in the line of duty. As well as to those who continue to serve.
This memorial includes a Captain, a nozzle man, and three firefighters. In addition to being life-size, each firefighter has ornate elements in each of their turn out gears. I modeled each of the firefighters to the highest level of accuracy and detail for the job they are completing in the scene.
I have had many challenges in my sculpting career, but this might have been one of my biggest challenges. It took a large amount of focus to get each detail perfect. From the downed firefighter in the scene, to the Captain calling out commands, each fold in their bunker gear is meticulous. I know that my level of detail and craftsmanship not only makes for a beautiful sculpture, but shows respect for the men and women who have sacrificed everything to be in this profession.
This sculpture is slated to be installed September in Carson City, Nevada. Click here for updates: NEVADA STATE FIREFIGHTER MEMORIAL – austinweishel.com
